Department of Food Science

LS9 is operative within the new born Department of Food Science of the University of Parma, which gathers an interdisciplinary pool of experts in food technology, microbiology, food chemistry, veterinary, nutrition, agronomy and economy, with a true “from the field to the fork” approach. The Department offers comprehensive programs in Food Science and Technology, in Gastronomical Science and in Animal Production Technology and Food Safety, preparing students for leadership positions in the food and feed industry. Research programs are designed to expand understanding of the biological/microbiological, chemical, physical, sensor, nutritional, and engineering properties of food, beverages and feed.  The activities of the Department of Food Science encompass transfer research-based information and technology to consumers, food, beverage, feed and milk companies and governmental agencies, with the goal of enhancing the availability, quality, and safety of our food supply.
